One missing tooth can throw your entire oral harmony out of whack, so there’s no question that you should have the tooth replaced. But as with most dental treatment, you have options. Dr. Monteagudo offers traditional crown and bridgework, commonly called a bridge, or single tooth replacement with a dental implant. Don’t let dental prosthetics intimidate you. We’re talking about your health and your mouth, so you should know the facts.

A dental bridge consists of a few replacement teeth connected together. In most cases, if you need a single tooth replaced, the bridge will feature two crowns with a solid replacement tooth between them. Why three teeth? The two end crowns fit onto the existing teeth on either side of the space left by your missing tooth. These two adjacent teeth are called abutment teeth, and the crowns are abutment crowns. To hold the non-removable (fixed) bridge in place, the abutment teeth are reduced and crowned with the abutment crowns. While the dental bridge has a long history of success, Dr. Monteagudo wants you to know about a more conservative option: the dental implant.

Unlike a bridge, an implant is independently anchored into the jaw. Dr. Monteagudo works with respected oral surgeons and periodontists in an interdisciplinary approach to implant dentistry. As your general dentist, Dr. Monteagudo will oversee your implant case, coordinate treatment with the surgeon, and design your replacement tooth. He uses dental labs known for their exquisite, lifelike, well-fitting restorations.

After an initial exam and case planning, you’ll undergo a brief oral surgery in which a small dental implant post will be secured into the socket left by your missing tooth. Bone tissue will naturally fuse to the biocompatible post and create a strong anchor for your new tooth. You may wear a temporary until your mouth has healed and can support the final restoration. When you’re ready, Dr. Monteagudo will secure the dental implant restoration to the post, and your smile will be strong and complete once again.

Benefits of Single-Tooth Dental Implants

Dependable, solid, permanent prosthetic

No reduction and crowning of abutment teeth

Implants stimulate bone, so degeneration is not a concern

Implants can last a lifetime with proper oral healthcare

No special care or maintenance is required

Looks and feels natural

Do you have one or more missing teeth in a row? This problem can negatively impact oral function, as well as self-confidence. Traditionally, dentists replace the teeth with a fixed bridge. A bridge consists of prosthetic teeth in a row, attached to crowns on either end. The crowns are called abutment crowns, and they attach to healthy abutment teeth on either side of the space left by missing teeth. In some cases, the natural abutment teeth are not strong enough or healthy enough to retain a bridge long term. In other situations, patients don’t want to crown healthy teeth to hold a bridge in place. Dr. Monteagudo offers Mini Dental Implant bridges as an alternative to the traditional crown and bridge.

Mini Dental Implants (MDIs) are very small, biocompatible screws placed into a few sockets where teeth are missing. The procedure does not require flap surgery because the unique design of MDIs allows for insertion into the jaw, directly through the gum tissue. Because the screws are made of biocompatible material, jawbone tissue naturally integrates with them to create a solid anchor for securing a bridge.

Dr. Monteagudo simply attaches a bridge to the few implant posts. The appliance, like a traditional bridge, is fixed, so it is not removable. Mini implant bridges are a reliable and conservative alternative to a traditional bridge. They can postpone the need for a removable prosthetic, as well.

If you would like to reclaim quality of life, optimal oral function, and a full set of teeth for a beautiful smile, call Dr. Monteagudo in West Allis to reserve a consultation. He’ll meet with you, review your records, then discuss practical, lasting options to replace your missing teeth. Your case is unique, so only after a thorough evaluation can Dr. Monteagudo suggest the appropriate prosthetic. Call today – because you deserve a dependable, beautiful, and healthy smile!

Dr. Monteagudo offers FDA-approved Mini Dental Implants as a reliable and natural-looking option to replace missing teeth. With Mini Dental Implants, small posts fit into sockets left by missing teeth, then a denture is secured to the top of the posts. Also called MDIs, Mini Dental Implants are manufactured by the reputable 3M subsidiary, Imtec. This style of dental prosthetic offers an innovative, lasting solution to solidify loose, wobbly, or slipping dentures.

Fact: 50 million Americans have lost all of their teeth.

For patients who don’t have sufficient bone density, or for those who don’t want to endure traditional implant surgery, Mini Dental Implants pose a practical solution. The MDI posts feature threads, like a small screw. Dr. Monteagudo can gently secure the MDI posts without performing traditional implant surgery, or “flap” surgery. The narrow implants are inserted into the gums, then into the jaw. In most cases, four posts are placed to secure a denture. Healing occurs rapidly, and soon, an overdenture can be secured to the posts.

Benefits of Mini Dental Implants

Can Last a Lifetime

Cost Effective

Easy Home Care

Improve Oral Function & Quality of Life

Offer Reliable Denture Stabilization

One-Hour Procedure

Support Bone Retention

Dr. Monteagudo has advanced training and experience with implant-retained dentures, and he’ll explain everything you need to know about what to expect during the MDI procedure. State-of-the-art imaging allows Dr. Monteagudo to plan implant cases with extreme precision. The doctor also focuses on patient comfort, so if you feel apprehensive or nervous, please tell our staff. We can administer various levels of anesthesia during the procedure to ensure peace of mind and body.
